The AZEVN Committee is delighted to announce that for the 3rd Year in a row at the 2019 AZEVN Conference, we will be welcoming another international speaker to participate as part of your speaker programme via Skype.

Following on from Eva Smoot CVT  in 2018 and Kelli Harvison BS, CVT in 2017, we will join in 2019 by the President of the Association of Zoo Veterinary Technicians (AZVT) from across the pond in Queens, New York, Melissa Ortiz, LVT.

Melissa is a Licensed Veterinary Technician from Queens, New York. She graduated in 2007 from LaGuardia Community College. She has over 15 years of experience in the field with over 8 years in exotic animal medicine.  She is currently the sole Licensed Veterinary Technician at the Wildlife Conservation Society’s Queens Zoo.

In addition to her daily work at the zoo, she takes great pride in being an active member of both professional and community organisations. Most recently, Melissa joined the Board of Advisers for the Veterinary Technology program at her Alma Mater, LaGCC. She is the local New York State Association of Veterinary Technicians board representative, serving the NY Metropolitan area. In April of 2015, NYSAVT awarded Melissa with The Aspiring Leader Award for her contributions to both the profession and NYSAVT.
